The providing of good, simple at first stories is so important based on my educational experience. It seems like teachers do not have one iota of autonomy in terms of curriculum and the reading materials and stories read. Freshmen year and sophomore year in high school in 2006 and 2007, I had to read Edgar Allan Poe short stories and catcher in the rye. Books had potential to be awesome, I realized. As a passionate movie lover and quoter, I finally understood why there were voracious readers. When people would say “books are better than movies”, i just never really bought it until I had the grammatical and vocabulary and foundations to effectively write and read while also coming into contact with stories that I found entertaining.
