UPDATE: GEORGIA SB 74
Please continue to pray for God’s intervention, that SB 74 remains strong and effective in safeguarding Georgia’s children.
This bill closes a dangerous loophole that currently exempts school libraries from Georgia’s harmful-to-minors obscenity laws. In plain terms, SB 74 removes “school” from the exemption list — meaning depictions of graphic sexual acts and obscene content would no longer receive special protection simply because it sits on a school shelf.
SB 74 does not ban books. It does not target age-appropriate literature. What it does is hold schools to the same legal standard already applied everywhere else in our state: minors should not be given access to pornographic or explicit sexual material. Right now, parents across Georgia are discovering books in school libraries that would be illegal to provide to children in any other setting. SB 74 restores common-sense accountability and affirms that children deserve the same protections at school as they receive elsewhere.
Please take two minutes right now to call or email committee members and respectfully ask them to vote YES on SB 74. Let them know you are a parent, grandparent, or concerned citizen — and that safeguarding children matters. This vote happens today, and your voice truly can make a difference.
HOUSE JUDICIAL NON CIVIL COMMITTEE - HEARING TODAY AT 3:30 PM
When you call a committee member, you may hear an aide’s name instead of the representative’s on the recording. That’s normal — aides often answer the phone. For example, when I called Rep. Silcox, her aide’s name was on the recording, and at first I thought I had the wrong number. I’m sharing this so you don’t hang up thinking you called the wrong office.
PLEASE SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH YOUR GROUPS, FAMILY, AND FRIENDS. THESE REPRESENTATIVES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN. THEY HAVE THE POWER TODAY TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN.
These 18 representatives hold the key to removing graphic depictions of sexual acts/obscenity to minors. Pray God performs a miracle today for our children.
